I was the oldest of three, and I saw my dad fight to keep his small business going and, at the leanest times, my mom counted out food stamps at the grocery store. I started working at an early age: as a babysitter, as a lifeguard, and as a McDonald’s worker.&nbsp; I put myself through college by working two jobs, including&nbsp; as a waitress at Golden Corral. With every job, I learned more about the meaning of responsibility, discipline, and decisiveness. I also saw that work opened doors to opportunity.<br></p><p>For me, being the first in my family to go to college opened doors of opportunity to serve my community. Starting my junior year, the Army ROTC at Elon University gave me the opportunity to help pay my tuition. I fell in love with the Army as a cadet at Fort Knox, firing a 50-caliber machine gun at old beat-up tanks.&nbsp;<br></p><p>It became so much more than a ticket to school. I learned to see myself as a soldier.</p><span class="image image-framed image-left image-tilt-right" style="width: 40%;"><span class="image-inner-wrapper"><img src="https://run.imgix.net/64407a1b-b078-48d2-8b36-64b5b2718039/92e95a17-e151-46d3-bc8d-bf1e7ca4efbe/92e95a17-e151-46d3-bc8d-bf1e7ca4efbe.jpg?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=39%2C22%2C660%2C488&amp;w=1500" alt="" caption="Field Training 1986" align="left" alignwidth="40" tiltdirection="right" variant="framed"></span><span class="caption" style="">Field Training 1986</span></span><p>Hard work gave me the opportunity to rise through the ranks of the Army, serving as a commander in Alabama, Indiana, New York, and Wisconsin. Leading soldiers from so many regions and cultures gave me a deep understanding of how to work with people different from me and earn their respect.<br></p><p>After a decade of active duty, I entered the Army Reserve. When serving in the Reserve, I also had a full-time civilian job. For me, it was a career in start-up technology and communications. I grew businesses, managed budgets, and solved problems that other people couldn’t.<br></p><p>Then September 11th came. I’d just had a baby three months earlier. And I was on reserve duty, across the river from the Pentagon.&nbsp;<br></p><p>After 2003, I served additional tours of active duty, including a deployment to Iraq. All told, I served 30 years in uniform, including a peacekeeping mission and two combat deployments.</p><p>In 2014 and 2015, while working at the State Department, I collaborated to create new initiatives to take down terrorists’ narratives — propaganda that could be used to radicalize and recruit others to attack the United States — with strategic partnerships between the U.S. and countries around the world. In 2019, I served as a strategic advisor to the United States Army Cyber Command.</p><p>In the private sector, I held roles at a technology startup and other companies. In the community, I mentor startup founders at a tech accelerator and engage in veteran advocacy. I even co-created a local Tampa Bay TV show called “Veteran Strong” to showcase the value that veterans bring to the business community. My goal was to encourage local businesses to hire veterans for their wealth of skills and experience. I even went to law school and learned to help veterans access health care and other critical benefits.<br></p><p>My husband and I have lived in the Tampa Bay area for more than 20 years. We raised our daughter here. Now, I’m running for Congress to fight for the people in Pinellas County, Florida who work hard but see the doors of opportunity closing. <p>Our county is home to 35 miles of beaches and 588 miles of coastline.<br></p><p>Nearly all businesses in our district, over 99%, are small businesses. We have over 30,000 small businesses.&nbsp;<br></p><p>Pinellas County is home to over 66,000 veterans - representing 8.2% of the adult population, well above the Florida rate of 7.3% and the national rate of 6.1%.<br></p><p>The median home value in Pinellas County: ~$381,000 which is up 152.5% over the past decade, contributing to a 38.3% overall rise in the cost of living.<br></p><p>We have all 13 law enforcement agencies in Pinellas County.&nbsp;<br></p><p>Pinellas County's median age is 49.3 years, compared to 43.0 for Florida as a whole. That means Social Security, Medicare, prescription drug costs, and fixed-income affordability aren't abstract policy debates here: they're kitchen table conversations.</p>

<h4>“Service over self”</h4><p>That mantra guided me for 35 years as an Army officer and business leader.&nbsp; It is why I am running to serve our community and country.&nbsp;</p><p>My family moved to Tampa Bay 23 years ago.&nbsp; We watched neighbors struggle with skyrocketing costs of housing, healthcare, insurance, food, fuel, and groceries. We saw hurricanes destroy our homes and kill our neighbors. Our national security and coastal economy are in chaos while politicians drive hate among our neighbors and distrust among allies. That isn't a partisan issue. It is a failure of leadership.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Leadership means you don’t wait for someone else to fix a problem. The system is broken, and the time to act is now.&nbsp;I am running to stop the chaos.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>My campaign isn’t about partisan “good versus bad” mudslinging. It’s about voting for the best candidate. I have the best leadership and professional experience to deliver Pinellas and our great nation back to peace and prosperity.&nbsp;</p><p>If you are tired of seeing a lack of leadership in Congress stall progress for your family, then vote for me. We must make housing affordable for all Pinellas residents.</p><p></p><p><strong>Reducing Healthcare Costs for Families and Small Businesses</strong></p><p>As Florida’s healthcare and insurance costs outpace the national average, affordable care is out of reach for middle-class Pinellas families, seniors, veterans, and small businesses. Our healthcare system must operate with the same precision and accountability as our most critical institutions. We must make affordable, quality, dependable care a reality for every resident of the 13th District.</p><p></p><p><strong>Lower the Cost of Everyday Essentials</strong></p><p>We have an affordability crisis in this country and Washington is ignoring it. Tackling the suffocating prices of groceries, gas, and every day goods must be Congress’s top priority. As families and businesses struggle, we must work aggressively to lower costs for Florida families by attacking the actual drivers of inflation: illegal tariffs, broken supply chains, political corruption, burdensome regulations, and corporate monopolies - not by adding more bureaucracy or red tape.&nbsp;</p>
